Bipartisan Comprehensive Immigration Reform Will Include Employment Verification System

A bipartisan group of eight senators announced today they have agreed on a set of principles for comprehensive immigration reform.  The four main goals of the reform package covers border security, guest workers and employer verification, as well as a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal immigrants already in this country.

Employment Verification

One of the four main goals specifically focused on employment – and creating an effective employment verification system to ensure that employers do not hire illegal immigrants.  This will be an enhancement to laws that currently are in place as existing  U.S. law requires companies to employ only individuals who may legally work in the United States – either U.S. citizens, or foreign citizens who have the necessary authorization.
